Honoring a Fallen Hero: Officer Austin Abdelnabi

The Las Vegas law enforcement community continues to mourn Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Officer Austin Abdelnabi, who was killed in the line of duty on August 4, 2026. He was 30 years old.

Officer Abdelnabi was the first officer to arrive after LVMPD received a report of an armed man acting erratically near a business on East Tropicana Avenue. As Officer Abdelnabi exited his patrol vehicle, the gunman immediately opened fire, striking him multiple times. Additional officers arrived and rendered aid before Officer Abdelnabi was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His death is a painful reminder of the danger officers face each day and the courage it takes to answer every call without knowing what may await them.

Before joining LVMPD in November 2023, Officer Abdelnabi served his country as a United States Marine. His military service included assignments in Japan and Africa and earned him several honors, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. After joining LVMPD, he served at the Southeast Area Command.

Those who knew Austin remember far more than his distinguished record of service. He was known for his larger-than-life personality, his laughter, and his deep love for his wife, Sage. Whether serving alongside fellow Marines or protecting the Las Vegas community, he lived with courage, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Austin's dedication to the law enforcement family also extended beyond his work as an officer. He contributed to the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (LVPPA)'s charitable efforts to assist officers and families experiencing hardship and loss. Tragically, Austin became the first fallen officer who had personally donated to the charity whose support would later be extended to his own family.

In the days following his death, law enforcement officers, first responders, and community members came together to honor Austin's life and sacrifice. The overwhelming outpouring of support reflected the profound impact he made during a life devoted to serving others. The LVPPA remains committed to standing beside Austin's wife, family, friends, and fellow officers not only during the immediate period of mourning but throughout the difficult months and years ahead. No family should face such a loss alone.

Officer Abdelnabi answered the call to serve both his country and his community. Although his watch ended far too soon, his courage, compassion, and selfless service will never be forgotten.
